Guitar Techniques Live with Neville Marten, Jason Sidwell, Stuart Ryan and Tristan Seume
Join Guitar Techniques Live and learn the key techniques, style and tricks from some of the greatest guitar bands and solo artists of all time. Each day you will work through the classics with your tutors; Neville, Jason, Stuart, Tristan and the IGF house band for a live performance each evening.
The course set list will take you through blues rock, classic rock, pop, funk and country and will cover the work of a whole range of top artists and bands from the ‘60s right up to today. Students will be sent the course songs nearer the time for a chance to get familiar with them - and anybody that can sing will be greatly appreciated!
It is important you signify your general level of ability so we can cater to you best - how long you have been playing, your general technique and theory knowledge, favourite music genres and previous IGF courses you have attended. This workshop is for students who want to take their general playing - acoustic and electric - to the next level in a fun and productive environment.
What will make it doubly fun is that in the evenings the acoustic and electric courses will come together (where previously planned with students and tutors) to perform some of the songs in their specific groups, and others as a larger ensemble - a mini guitar orchestra, along with the IGF house bass and drums. Vocalists - both solo and harmony - will be encouraged and the focus will be on creating a musically rewarding and socially fun week for all.
Neville Marten is perhaps best known for having edited two of Europe’s leading guitar magazines: Guitarist and Guitar Techniques (Future Publishing). His Blues Headlines and Blues You Can Use columns in Guitarist are consistently the most popular in the magazine; he has written many books on guitars and guitar playing, including Guitar Heaven (Octopus), plus the best selling Giants of Blues (Sanctuary Publishing). In addition to his career as a journalist Neville is a highly rated blues and rock’n’roll guitarist whose regular gig is with Marty Wilde’s band, The Wildcats.
Jason Sidwell (BA Hons, MA, ALCM) is Senior Music Editor of Future Publishing’s guitar magazines: Total Guitar, Guitarist and Guitar Techniques. He has written and/or edited several thousand tutorials across these three magazines since 1998 and wrote tutorial articles for The Guardian and Observer newspapers. His book/DVD 'How To Play Guitar Step By Step' (Dorling and Kindersley) was released in 2011 and his DVD 'Funk Empowerment; Groove Guitar Mastery using the CAGED system' was released in 2009. Jason is a visiting lecturer for several contemporary music academies and is a consultant for UK guitar/bass exam boards. He regularly gigs in various bands, touring shows and as a solo guitarist (www.uniquedayguitar.com). His fusion band, Contusion was formed in 2010.
