Nigel North Baroque lute; Goran Krivokapic guitar
Each artist will play one half of this concert
A unique recital entitled Capriccio by the magnificent lutenist Nigel North who has been described as the greatest player in the history of the instrument. He presents his new CD on BGS Records, the fourth in a series of the music of the great baroque composer and lutenist Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1687-1750). Both as virtuoso performer and as composer Weiss can be seen as a peer of keyboard players such as J.S. Bach and Domenico Scarlatti, both of whom he knew well. He left the largest corpus of music for lute of any composer in the history of the instrument and contemporaries said about him that ‘in his art he is equalled only by himself’.
Sylvius Leopold Weiss: Ouverture and Aria in C major, Fantasie, Concerto and Plainte in B flat major, Ouverture, Sonata and Fuga in D minor, Tombeau sur la Mort de Mr Comte de Logy (1721)
Goran Krivokapic has emerged as one of the foremost guitarists on the international scene, setting new standards with his breathtaking virtuosity and intelligent interpretations. He tours extensively in Europe, US and the far east and is much in demand as a teacher of masterclasses. As a chamber musician he is one half, with Danijel Cerović, of the Montenegrin Guitar Duo.
