Voted into the top three guitarists in the world by US magazine Guitar Player, Juan is one of the big names of the Flamenco guitar.
He learned his art in the land of origin, Andalucía, where he played in the Spanish film Donde tu estes aged 17.
He has recorded 18 albums including Musica Alhambra, The Andalucian Suites and Serenade as well as several DVDs, most notably those with his dance company
recently recorded in Istanbul and at the Barbican in 2009 and 2010.
His original Flamenco guitar method ‘El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra’ is considered to be the ‘bible’ of flamenco guitar and has seen ten reprints. Juan describes being asked by Sir Roland Penrose and Lee Miller to play for Picasso’s 90th birthday celebration one of the great honours of his life. He has performed at international festivals around the world from Hong Kong to Montreux Jazz and his tours have taken him everywhere from Australia, America and Canada to the Middle and Far East. El Mundo said of him that ‘he has a terrifyingly good technique and absolute dominance of the guitar’.
