The Concerts

Emily Andrews and Francisco Correa

Tues 13 August – 7.30pm
Tickets: £14

Colombian guitarist Francisco Correa, acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic for his musicality and gorgeous sound, will be joined by English flautist and mezzo-soprano Emily Andrews – “a natural musician with astonishing dexterity and an unusually wide range of tone colours” – for this evening concert to open the IGF Bath Summer School 2024.

Like the duo itself, the programme mixes Colombian and British music, drawing the audience through the full range of colours, rhythms, and emotions from both sides of the Atlantic. The duo present haunting, rhythmic and melodic Colombian folk songs, Colombian classical music which draws on these folk rhythms and influences, and British music by composer Stephen Goss, who himself is heavily influenced by Latin American music – indeed many movements in his pieces on the programme are evolved milongas, tangos or pasillos!

Emily and Francisco have recently recorded Stephen Goss’s complete works for flute and guitar, on a CD called “Catedral” which is due to come out in February 2025 under the Deux-Elles label.
