Bath Guitar Festival
and Summer School
News!
Venue change – this year, we will be on campus at the University of Bath
International guitar legends Judicaël Perroy, Irina Kulikova, Laura Snowden and professor Stephen Goss will join IGF’s own Tom Kerstens, Francisco Correa and Declan Zapala to give masterclasses, lessons, lectures workshops and concerts at this year’s classical guitar course.
Scholarships are available for talented guitarists – see scholarship application guidelines below.
The course runs from 13 – 17 August on campus at the University of Bath (close to the city centre).
Unearthing the percussive tones of the guitar
In this illuminating workshop Declan will explore percussive technique on the guitar and reveal some simple approaches which will allow anyone to incorporate extended techniques into their everyday playing and composing.
6 strings and 2 hands – how to reduce music down to its essence
In this workshop Declan will be sharing his experiences as a professional arranger of classical guitar music, offering up tips and tricks to help any budding music arrangers turn the guitar into a 2nd home for even the most demanding orchestral symphony.
‘The delusion of urtext’: are we taking notated music too literally?
What evidence do we have to suggest that a published score represents the ideal, correct, or even finished version of a piece? Stephen Goss will argue that we often lose sight of the spirit of a piece music by believing that a score is a fixed immovable object, like a butterfly pinned in a display case.
The event takes place at a different venue this year. The University of Bath, Claverton Down campus offers state of the art facilities and accommodation on site. All rooms are single and ensuite with individual toilet and shower (towels provided) and communal kitchens.
